I grew up in England with parents who practiced and taught alternative ways of healing. Ever since I can remember, I have always danced. Whilst attending The University of Oregon I realized I needed to go to a school which honored dance as healing and self-expression rather than a strong technique focus.
I received my degree in Dance Therapy from Naropa University, Boulder CO. During this time I explored fully many movement based healing forms, The Five Rhythms, Body Mind Centering, Contemplative Dance Practice, Authentic Movement, Ritual performance.
After graduating from Naropa, I traveled through India studying the art of Fire Dance, yoga and Odissi dance, letting the Eastern ways inform my own practice. I then moved back to England for a year, where, I taught a movement class called Temple Dance. Temple Dance gave people an opportunity to discover their own sacred dance, expressing themselves in new ways..
I also danced with the London Based Limon Company. An improvisation based music and dance company. It was in this company that I was introduced to Anna Halprin's work through Martin, the director of the Limon Company. Anna Halprin is one of the pioneers in the healing arts and ritual performance, her studio and Institute for expressive healing arts is in Marin county, California.
In 2002, I moved to the SF Bay Area to attend Tamalpa Institute to study Expressive Healing Arts with Daria Halprin (Anna Halprin's daughter) After completing level one of the Life-Art process, I wanted to learn more about the body on another level of healing and became certified in massage from Alive and Well Institute for Conscious Body Work.
After developing my work and myself in San Francisco, I then moved to Los Angeles to further my work and teaching. Just as everything was taking off for me, with full classes and an article released in Yogi Times, I recieved a massage that drastically changed my life. If I would have listened to my inner voice of warning, I would not have surrendered myself in this session. The massage therapist adjusted my neck without permission, which damaged my neck in a way that prevented me from doing my work and living the dream I was envisoning. So I left LA in 2005 to go on Sabatical.
I was invited to New Zealand to help facilatate a five rhythms workshop with Melissa Michaels. This journey helped me reconnect with the Earth, my body, and my voice. I developed new sessions to help women connect with their power and thir spirit through the ancient dance of temple dance (See Private Sessions). I connected with some amazing musicians and producers and created the music of my soul. Through the expression of my voice, I acccessed a power within me bigger than I have ever known.
After my sabatical, I returned back to the US and to Portland, Oregon, putting myself out in the world as a performing artist in Ritual/Sacred Dance and offering my dance and performance at special events, weddings, country fairs and gatherings (e.g., Emerg-n-See, Faeryworlds Festival, Subud National Congress, and others) and various other events.
Today, I live in Costa Rica and work between here and California mostly. I am in the process of building Bamboo, a dance/yoga space for living artfully for classes and retreats here in Dominical, Costa Rica. I am also working on new bodies of work as a vocalist, dancer, and facilitator in the Healing Arts. I am working to use the Expressive Arts and Media as a way of waking up the masses and creating change and growth in every one of us. In addition to teaching and performing, I work one on one with clients using bodywork and guided movement to help them connect with themselves and creative spirit in a deeper and more fullfilling way. Please see Private Sessions.
